The participation of DP World, the UAE region and Jafza in Arab Health 2021 will open new growth avenues for companies.
DP World, the Jebel Ali (Jafza) Free Zone in the UAE region, experienced 12% growth in its healthcare and pharmaceutical customer base between 2019-2020. To show their commitment to promoting the growth of healthcare and pharmaceutical companies, DP World, the UAE region and Jafza will participate in Arab Health 2021, one of the leading medical equipment exhibitions in the Middle East.
As one of the most important contributing sectors in the free zone, the healthcare and pharmaceuticals segment is one of the main economic pillars of Jafza. Covering an area of approximately 170,000 m² and currently home to 174 companies from 41 countries, the segment employs 1,100 people. In 2019, the volume of trade in the segment amounted to 25,000 metric tons, valued at 900 million Dhs.
The healthcare sector in the UAE has grown rapidly to meet the changing needs of the population, helping the country in its efforts to become a regional hub for medical tourism. Partnerships and initiatives by government and private and public sector companies help achieve these goals. DP World, the UAE region and Jafza have been at the forefront, ensuring sustainable growth in this sector.
Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO and Managing Director of DP World – UAE Region and Jafza said: Delivering to over 3.5 billion consumers through Jebel Ali’s highly efficient trade and logistics platform, which includes Jafza and the port by Jebel Ali.
Our trade and logistics platform accelerated the global distribution of COVID-19 equipment and played a key role in the Dubai Vaccine Logistics Alliance, an initiative launched in January 2021. As a smart trade enabler, we have ensured a chain of flawless supply throughout 2020, regardless of dynamic market conditions.
As the only free zone with the capacity to support local manufacturing for the health and pharmaceutical sector, Jafza has dedicated facilities for the storage of ancillary items for vaccine preparation and administration.
In addition, the port of Jebel Ali has temperature-controlled warehouses and also includes nearly 10,000 refrigeration points distributed throughout the terminals to supply refrigerated containers and support the pharmaceutical trade.
Several incentives such as short-term rental on-demand warehouses with multifunctional storage options, no VAT or tariffs and cost-effective transport services improve accessibility and enable faster deliveries for the benefit of businesses operating in Jebel Ali. The participation of DP World, the UAE region and Jafza in Arab Health 2021 will open new growth avenues for businesses, adding further value to the country’s economy.
Jafza is one of the world’s major free trade zones and is home to more than 8,000 multinational companies. Jafza accounts for 23.9% of total FDI (foreign direct investment) flows to Dubai, supporting the employment of more than 135,000 people in the United Arab Emirates. In 2019, Jafza generated trades worth $ 99.5 billion.
