Organizers estimate around 1.5 million fans will attend the 2022 World Cup.
“There will be accommodation for anyone who wants to stay in Qatar” during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, according to FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
It comes around the same time fans discovered that a match ticket was their only way to enter the Gulf country as it would grant them an official FIFA ID, the Hayya card. This will in turn facilitate entry visas for international visitors. If you are unable to secure a ticket for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 match, visitors will not be permitted to enter the country during the tournament.
Qatar, as reported by Forbes, plans to open more than 100 hotels and “serviced residences” to meet expected demand.
The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC), in a statement, revealed that the rooms available for World Cup fans will reach 130,000. That said, this is a testament to the preparation of accommodation measures and of Qatar’s welcoming efforts. Available accommodations include hotel rooms, floating hotels, villas, apartments, and fan villages.
The Supreme Committee has promised 60,000 rooms in apartments and villas, as well as around 4,000 rooms on two cruise ships.
In 2019, Qatar signed an agreement with MSC Cruises for the rental of two luxury liners called floating hotels, which will be moored at the port of Doha during the football event.
2022 FIFA World Cup organizers guarantee ‘affordable’ accommodation for fans
FIFA organizers have capped the room rates that hotels can charge supporters. Three-star hotels are capped at around $120.
In an interview with Reuters, Infantino added “maybe someone then wants to spend a day in Dubai or Abu Dubai or Muscat or Riyadh or Jeddah or whatever in the area and they will have the opportunity to go visit other countries throughout their stay in this Region.”
Iran is one of the countries with a convenient tourist travel itinerary, where the country’s foreign ministry has offered a visa-free scheme allowing World Cup visitors to enter Tehran except nationals of the United States, United Kingdom and Canada, including several from other countries, the Mehr news agency reported on Sunday. The Islamic Republic’s Supreme Council for Free Trade and Special Economic Zones of Iran has also confirmed that 400 direct flights between Iran’s Kish Island and Doha are expected to be launched alongside the major tournament.
Visitors in possession of match tickets can now book their stay through the official accommodation booking website, the Qatar News Agency reported. The cost of accommodation in some apartments does not exceed $80 per night, while booking some rooms in luxury floating hotels, with restaurants and leisure activities, costs around $180 per night.
The press release from the Supreme Committee also notes that it has signed an agreement with Accor, a major hotel operator in Europe, to make available to the 10,000 employees responsible for operating during the event, 60,000 apartments and villas during the competition.
Accor regional CEO Mark Willis said the move was meant to challenge Airbnb. “It’s not the norm for us. We are hoteliers. It’s something special. It is our chance to be part of this huge global event and we are grateful for the opportunity,” he said.
“The idea is to provide a three star plus and four star stay experience, on top of Airbnb where you just hand over the keys. If you need to make a phone call, if you need assistance , there will be housekeeping services, reception and our hygiene procedures will be there. From a service quality point of view, we will be in the apartments every day or every other day for cleaning. ”
Qatar World Cup organizers have reassured fans that the event will be “as affordable as possible for everyone”, said FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 CEO Nasser Al -Khater, in an interview with SunSport.
