India’s G20 leadership will guide it through the decade: President Murmu

India-led deliberations on global issues will help the G20 navigate the next decade, President Draupadi Murmu said on Monday.

“In the coming months, India will also host the G-20 group under its chairmanship. In this grouping, twenty major countries of the world will reflect on global issues under India’s presidency,” she said in her maiden speech as the country’s 15th president.

“I am sure that the conclusions and policies that will emerge from this brainstorming in India will set the direction for decades to come,” he added.

Murmu further said that the international community has high hopes for India to bring global economic stability, supply chain ease and peace.

Draupadi Murmu was sworn in on Monday in the central hall of parliament. She was sworn in by Chief Justice of India NV Ramanna. She succeeds Ram Nath Kovind, whose five-year term ended on Sunday.

She is the first woman and the first tribal leader to hold the country’s highest constitutional office.

India’s G20 Presidency

It is noted that India will hold the G20 Presidency from December 1, 2022 and will convene the G20 Leaders Summit for the first time next year.

During its presidency of G20 or Group of Twenty, India will host a large number of G20 events at different levels across the country, said Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi , quoted by the news agency. ANI.

Bagchi told a weekly press conference that the G20 summit will be preceded by a large number of meetings – such as ministerial meetings, working group meetings and special initiatives that each country could take at different levels.

“India will assume the presidency of the G20 in December 2022. Apart from the summit we will hold next year whose dates are yet to be decided, a large number of G20 events at different levels will be organized across the country during our presidency. There is no need to speculate at this stage on these things,” he said.

India has been a member of the G20 since its inception in 1999.
