MLB Trade Rumors is the place to be as soon as the Hot Stove turns on. In years when the Philadelphia Phillies aren’t in the market to buy, this is probably a place you visit out of morbid curiosity and not so much for excitement.
This winter, after another disappointing finish, the Phillies should be buyers again. They have kept their word over the last few seasons. Before 2019, we had Bryce Harper the 2021 MVP. Before 2020, it was Zack Wheeler, the Cy Young finalist.
So who do MLB Trade Rumors experts think will come to the City of Brotherly Love? These are the names of the players with at least one of the three predictors naming themselves as the future Phillies player. They are among the top 50 free agents on the site this winter, so you know there is going to be a lot of bidding wars to acquire them.
Shortstops set to sign with Philadelphia Phillies: Carlos Correa, Trevor Story
Carlos Correa and Trevor Story both received 1/3 votes as the Phillies’ next shortstop. A position in need of a desperate upgrade, now would be the best time to do so. The market is full of star players. Going into opening day with anything less would be criminal.
Correa is considered the best free agent this winter and I don’t really think he will end up in Philadelphia. Looks like he’s a lot more likely to head to a place like the Detroit Tigers to help them turn their fortunes around.
The story, on the other hand, is more like the Phillies. Imagine his right handed bat hitting behind Harper. The transition from Coors Field to the hitter-prone outskirts of Citizens Bank Park would help prevent it from sinking into one of those “post-Colorado Rockies” meltdowns.
Either way, if the Phillies can land one of these guys, put on our battle paint and get ready for war.
