PENDING TRADE # 13: Week of December 1, 2021

Graphic novels. Collective editions. Omnibus. Trades. These are really just words for “awesome way to read comics”. So with this column, we’re going to take a look at all of those related pages hitting comic book stores, bookstores, and online outlets this week! (Note that in some cases the release dates at comic book stores, online retailers, and bookstores are different)

The editor says: Author Grant Morrison and Eisner Prize-winning artist Liam Sharp continue their bold and imaginative take on the Green Lantern! After Blackstar’s foray, Hal Jordan and the Green Lanterns must piece the world back together! Collect Green Lantern: Blackstars # 1-3 and The Green Lantern Season Two # 1-6.

What I am saying: Come in for top Morrison concept writing, but blow your brain over the ridiculous art of Liam Sharp. Who doesn’t want their head exploded?

The editor says: From the creator of the very popular webcomic Yes i’m hot in it comes a graphic novel about a young American Muslim. Huda and her family have just moved to Dearborn, Michigan, a small town with a large Muslim population. But Huda has no place – when everyone is Muslim, there is no Muslim clique like in his last town, and Huda is not a sports hijabi or a fashionista hijabi or a gamer hijabi. It’s just Huda, and she’s not sure what that means. She tries all kinds of identities and friends, but nothing suits her. Until she realizes she can get back to basics. Available in softcover and hardcover editions.

What I am saying: It sounds FANTASTIC. I believe semi-autobiographical comics are some of the most powerful in the medium (see Raina Telgemeier) and the kind of connection you can make with a story like Are you Huda F? that’s exactly what I’m looking for every week!

Written by Jason Aaron, Dennis Hallum
Art by Stephen Green, Rico Renzi
Posted by Image Comics
Price: $ 14.99
You can find it here: Amazon,

The editor says: From writing duo JASON AARON (SOUTHERN BASTARDS, Thor) and DENNIS HALLUM (Cloak and Dagger, Vader: Dark Visions) comes a sci-fi series for all ages, featuring
dazzling art by STEPHEN GREEN (Hellboy and the BPRD) and cosmic colors by RICO RENZI (Spider-Gwen)!

Young Kadyn believed that getting lost in the wild skies was the most fun a child could have. But now he’s starting to see the real face of deep space danger all around him. Meanwhile, her father
Gil, who fought every step of the way to find his son, may have finally reached his breaking point… and completely lost his mind.

The tender heart of the never-ending story meets the spatial reach of Star Wars in the stunning conclusion of this galaxy-wide adventure!

What I am saying: I have no idea how this escaped my vast radar, but it’s on the list as an official reminder for you (and me) that a fucking sci-fi Jason Aaron and Dennis Hallum exists and who hell shouldn’t you not reading this?

The editor says: The ideals of truth and justice – concepts synonymous with DC superheroes from the golden age of comics to the present day – are the basis of this collection of stories from the anthology series, Truth. & Justice. Bringing together issues 1-7 in the series, a host of creators take turns telling stories with characters from the DC Universe to show how these heroes live up to the ideals of truth and justice every day, in and out. out of their costumes.

What I am saying: Take a look at this creative list. They focus on the hearts of DC’s big guns, focusing on truth and justice. I don’t need to say more.

Cloak and dagger OMNIBUS VOL 2
Written by Bill Mantlo, more
Art by Larry Stroman, more
Posted by Marvel Comics
Price: $ 100.00
You can find it here: Amazon,

The editor says: As Cloak uncovers the hideous secret of his thirst for light, Nightmare seeks to use it to destroy Doctor Strange! Elsewhere, the horrible Mr. Jip unleashes his henchmen, day and night! Cloak and Dagger face off against Punisher and Mayhem. But when Tandy is corrupt, can X-Factor help save her soul? Next, Dagger faces the loss of his eyesight and the apparent death of his crime-fighting partner – while the evil Ecstasy wears Cloak’s cape! But rumors of Ty’s death have been greatly exaggerated! More: Doctor Doom! Acts of revenge! Hell! And Spider-Man and Ghost Rider join Cloak and Dagger for a final fight against Mephisto! Collection of MARVEL GRAPHIC NOVEL: CLOAK AND DAGGER – PREDATOR AND PREY, STRANGE TALES (1987) # 7, MUTANT MISADVENTURES OF CLOAK AND DAGGER # 1-13, CLOAK AND DAGGER (1990) # 14-19, and material from STRANGE TALES (1987)) # 3-6 and # 8-19.

What I am saying: Of course, this is the second omnibus in a series, the beauty of these pre-90 comic-filled Marvel collections is that you can largely just… dive in. Find characters you love and dive into the fundamental stories that are harnessed for that day!

… And with that, I’m calling this week over. Happy reading, comic book fans!
