Prioritize national interests through a strategic role in the G20 presidency


From December 1 to early November 2022, we will be holding approximately 150 meetings to discuss digital financial, climate and economic affairs. All will take place in Indonesia

Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) urged the country to make the most of its strategic position as G20 presidency to prioritize national interests.

“Indonesia is the first developing country to assume the presidency of the G20. Therefore, we must make the most of this important strategic position,” President Jokowi said Thursday.

The head of state subsequently noted that by assuming the presidency of the G20, Indonesia would be on an equal footing with developed countries. With this opportunity, Indonesia should make efforts to redouble its efforts and make the most of this position to defend national interests.

“Our national interest is of the utmost importance,” he noted.

President Jokowi recently returned from a week-long trip after attending the G20 summit in Rome, the COP26 climate change summit in Glasgow, and visiting the United Arab Emirates to intensify relations with the countries friends.

The president highlighted several different aspects of previous summits during the meetings.

“There were so many requests for bilateral meetings from the countries that were present at the time,” he said.

Jokowi also noted that several leaders of major nations approached him during these events.

“And these come from big countries. Their heads of state have approached me,” he added.

President Jokowi considers it an honor for Indonesia to assume the presidency of the G20. He later noted that apart from Bali, other cities in Indonesia will host the G20 summit.

“From December 1 to early November 2022, we will be holding approximately 150 meetings to discuss digital financial, climate and economic affairs. All will be held in Indonesia, ”he noted.

The president stressed that Indonesia, as a great country with a great history, wants to make the most of the G20 presidency to positively influence global policies in any way possible.
