Karma is one of the many valuable currencies available to you in Guild Wars 2. If you’re just starting out or just reached level 80 and are broke on karma, this guide will cover everything you need to know to keep your inventory stocked with stuff.
If you’re new, or maybe even a veteran, you may not realize how useful karma is. You can use karma not only to buy high-level equipment, but also to exchange it for other currencies or to unlock the best crafting recipes. You also need a massive amount to craft legendary weapons (which are considered a long-term endgame goal by most players).
How do you get more karma?
Just like in the real world, you can accumulate karma by doing good deeds. Completing Renown Hearts in the open world will always reward you with more Karma. One method is to simply level up your alternate characters and explore the worldcompleting Renown Hearts as you go, you can build a huge long-term store just by doing this.
What are Renown Hearts?
For those unaware, a Renown Heart is a heart-shaped icon that you can see on the world map. The tasks to complete them are usually simple, like helping NPCs with tasks or dealing with local threats (like those pesky Dredge). Hearts can reward you between 90 and 675 karma per popwhich might not seem like a lot, but after going through a few characters on some maps, it adds up.
The Best Cards for Karmic Farming
There are a few cards in Guild Wars 2 that the community has identified as the best for farming karma. You will often find taxi groups in the LFG menu on these maps, and join these groups and follow while they complete events or progress through a zone meta, they can earn you massive amounts of karma.
The best cards for karmic farming:
- dragon fall
- Drizzlewood north and south meta
- Living World’s Season 4 Maps Are All Good Places To Farm Karma
All of these cards will net you a lot of karma, but will also be a great way to farm materials, which can net you some decent gold, or you can craft some ascended gear.
Other Methods to Become a Fast Karma Farmer
There is no shortage of sources of karma in Guild Wars 2. If running around and completing map metas over and over sounds like your idea of hell, there are other ways to farm karma. Although not as effective as above, these ways can be a lot more fun, but the best alternatives are as follows:
- Fractals – 3,400 karma per fractal
- Raids – 10,000 karma per raid chest
- Strikes – 1,000 – 4,000
- WvW (World versus World mode) – 5,000 – 10,000 karma depending on activity levels
- festivals – these only happen once a year so they are unreliable, but you can farm huge amounts of karma, potentially over 100,000 at most (especially the Wintersday festival)
If you need to farm tons of karma, it makes sense to look at ways to increase your rewards. Guild Wars 2 gives you plenty of multiplier bonuses if you know what to look out for. There are multiple sources of karma boosters that can dramatically increase how well you can farm over time.
Lifetime Account Achievement Points
As you complete achievements and earn points, you can also unlock chests, every thousand achievement points will unlock a new chest. But every 5,000 points, you’ll get a huge achievement reward chest, which will give you a permanent boost (usually +1% or so) to your karma, gold, and experience points gain. It really starts to add up over time, and you can earn yourself a whopping 50% total bonus.
You can also get yourself a direct boost to your karma gain rate, achievement chests will sometimes drop karma boosters that give you another 50% boost. The only other way to get more is in the gem store, but as you earn achievement chests you might just store a few, save them for a rainy karma day , and you’ll be topped up in no time. .
Food and utility items
To finish, various foods can give you another ten percent karma gain bonus. These are:
- Peppermint Omnomberry Bar
- Plate of island pudding
- mint swirl ball
- Tropical Peppermint Ice Cream Cake
